FAQ

How do you steer the raft in Fart Together?
Hippos stand on the rim of a round raft and fart, and the green cloud leaves behind the one that is pushing. Creators describe steering as pushing from one side or the other and calling the next move out loud. Steam does not publish a control chart.
Does the raft stop when you stop farting?
No. AlesGames says the raft never seems to stop moving, OhSh4dow says the river pushes the team along anyway, and PatchyZoneYT says it keeps going on its own. Plan to brake before obstacles, not at them.
How do you brake the raft?
Creators brake by pushing back against the direction of travel. OhSh4dow calls "push back" again and again, AlesGames talks about braking before each obstacle, and PatchyZoneYT shouts for the brakes. The button for it is not published.
What keys steer the raft?
Not published. The only prompts we could read in player footage are ESC beside LEAVE and R beside SUICIDE in an English Demo HUD. Steam lists keyboard-only play and full controller support, but no binding chart.
Can you steer the raft alone?
Steam lists 2 to 4 online players and does not list single-player. In AlesGames' Demo video an online room would not start with one player, and he then ran the course alone through a local cooperative option. Whether Early Access allows that is unknown.

How does the raft move in Fart Together?

You move the raft by farting: hippos stand on the rim of a round raft, and the green cloud streams out behind the hippo that is pushing. Steam’s store description says players “steer the same raft using fart power”. Demo footage adds something the store page does not say: the raft does not stop when you stop pushing, so steering is as much about braking as about pushing.

We have not played the game ourselves. This page reads Steam’s text and four creators’ Demo videos, listed under Sources. For the gas bar see the gas guide, for habits see team tips, and for the basics see how to play.

Where do the hippos stand, and where does the gas go?

In close frames the hippo stands on the raft’s rim and the green cloud appears just outside the rim, behind the hippo. The two frames below show the same pattern: one hippo on the left edge with a puff off its side, and a long trail streaming away from the rim.

With two players, the hippos take different spots on the rim. That is why creators keep talking about “your side”: PatchyZoneYT’s partners call “fart from your side” around 0:00 and 2:08 and “turn from your side” around 2:38 (auto-translated captions), and OhSh4dow says “I can’t do anything from this side” and then asks for “another side” around 15:10.

Does the raft stop when you stop farting?

No: three creators say the raft keeps moving on its own, and all three bring up the river current in some form. AlesGames says it “seems like the raft never stops moving” around 5:44. OhSh4dow says “the river will push us along anyway” around 8:44 and warns about a fast stream around 8:13. PatchyZoneYT says it “will go ahead on its own” around 6:55 and points to the “flow of water” when the raft will not go where he wants around 3:38 (auto-translated captions). White flow streaks are visible on the water in the footage.

AlesGames goes further and treats the current as a tool, saying they “took advantage of the rapids” around 8:31. Either way, plan on braking early.

How do you slow down or brake?

Creators brake by pushing back against the direction of travel, and they do it before the obstacle, not at it. OhSh4dow calls “push back” around 2:34, 6:12, 7:43 and 8:44, and “slow us down” around 11:59. AlesGames says “we brake” around 4:44 and “watch out for the braking” around 5:44. PatchyZoneYT shouts for the brakes around 6:22 (auto-translated captions).

Frame from AlesGames’s video. Spiked banks and a rock make this a place to slow down early.

AlesGames adds one warning: after turning around to go back the other way, he says the controls feel reversed and that he would have to change his camera (around 10:36 and 11:07, auto-translated captions). That is a creator’s impression, not a documented rule.

How do two players steer together?

Creators steer together by calling the next move before they make it, and by agreeing who pushes from which side. Nothing here is an official tutorial.

  • Call the turn. OhSh4dow counts “3, 2, 1, turn” around 1:01 and says “get ready to stop it” around 4:08.
  • Name the direction. The same run has “push to the left, I mean, to the right” around 1:01 and “go to the right” around 7:13.
  • Pick sides. Around 12:30 OhSh4dow asks where the raft is going, notes “we’re pushing in the same direction”, and tells his partner to “stay on that side”.
  • Cover for each other. When a partner runs dry, the other takes over, which is covered in the gas guide.

Frame from OhSh4dow’s video at 14:32. Two hippos hold different spots on the rim.

What happens when a hippo runs low on gas?

A hippo that runs low shows a red rear, and creators say it stops being able to push. AlesGames says the farts end once the rear is red around 3:11, and OhSh4dow says he has run out around 15:40. Full detail, with timings, is in the gas guide.

What keys steer the raft?

The steering keys are not published. Steam lists keyboard-only play and full controller support, but no binding chart, and the store trailer shows only a leave prompt. In OhSh4dow’s English Demo HUD the bottom-left shows two prompts: ESC beside LEAVE, and R beside SUICIDE. Neither is a steering key. AlesGames says he gets confused with the buttons around 8:00 (auto-translated captions), which fits a game that does not teach its bindings on screen.

Do not trust a binding chart you find elsewhere unless it shows the game’s own screen. For the full list of what is confirmed, see controls.

Which mode can you steer in, and with how many players?

In the Demo lobby only Co-op Run is open; Team Race and Raft Rumble are marked “Próximamente”, Spanish for coming soon. The lobby frame is from AlesGames’ Spanish client. Steam lists 2 to 4 online players and does not list single-player.

AlesGames’ own run shows how the player count behaves in the Demo. Around 0:40 he says that at least two players are needed to start an online room and that it is just him (auto-translated captions). Around 1:10 he picks a local cooperative option and then runs the course with one hippo, saying around 5:14 that it would be easier with two. We cannot say whether Early Access allows this. For the official player count, see how many players.

What is still unknown?

The developer has not published steering controls, turn rates or braking rules. Still open:

  • The keys or buttons for pushing, turning and braking.
  • Whether the raft turns faster with more players pushing on one side.
  • Whether single-player or local co-op stays in Early Access.
  • Whether steering really feels reversed after the raft turns to go the other way, as AlesGames says.
